Stephen Quirk is an artist based in Portland, Maine and a 2000 graduate of the Maine College of Art. Stephen also spent a semester abroad at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland. He previously worked at the Maine College of Art and as an assistant to Portland photographers Jay York and Tonee Harbert. In 2010, Stephen started Factory Portland, a company dedicated to content generation for businesses and musicians in and around Maine. Through his company Factory Portland, he consults on album packaging, marketing needs, website content and building, video, and more.
His work “One Flesh: Documenting Gender, Sex and Sexuality“, which explores gender identity in the 21st century, was included in “Gender Queer / Queer Genders: Conversations Among Artists, Activists & Academics” held at The University of California, Santa Barbara. This conference examined the relationships between disability, gender, race, region, class, and other identities. “One Flesh” has also been shown at The Portland Museum of Art, Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art and Filament Gallery in Portland.
